Project: Curriculum development for Play School/Bridge School
Background: The Government schools in the community do not provide elementary education thus making it difficult for the children to learn quickly. This results in a lot of children dropping out in their early classes itself. In order to address this challenge, the Fellows have started a play school which caters to children from the community aged between 3 - 6years and aims at educating (oral & written) the kids in fundamentals of English (alphabets, rhymes etc) & Math (numbers). By far, the school has been managed by individuals from the community, who have passed their Xth standard but are not professionally trained in teaching elementary education. While on the other hand, bridge school caters to children from the community aged between 8 - 12 years & who have dropped out from school for various reasons. The objective is to bridge the gap of the lost academic years and train them to join higher classes.
Project Description: Broad tasks include, but are not restrcited to, the following -

On April 8th, as the Proud Indians had culminated their walk & pronounced the PERSONAL HONESTY DAY, Bhumi too took part in the celebrations at Rasoolpura to demonstrate its support for the movement.
The event saw an enthusiastic turnout in the youth from the community who actively participated in the Clean Up activity (an activity of sweeping as a symbolic gesture of cleansing oneself). They exchanged views on corruption in the country and particularly its effect in the context of the socio-economic background they come from.
When posed with a question as to 'whose responsibility is it to address a corrupt system', they resonated in unison saying "WE!"
After an hour long discussion, the event culminated as each of them inscribed their oath of honesty as an act of 'doing'; an oath that they pledge to themselves than to anybody else!
On December 18th, 2011, a group of young citizens who call themselves 'Proud Indians ', led by Abdul Mujeeb Khan, co-founder of a Hyderabad based not-for-profit organization, BHUMI, decided to embark on a 5500 kms journey across 15 states, on foot, starting from Kanyakumari to Delhi. Their dream was to build an Honest, Corrupt-free Nation by inspiring citizens to lead honest lives.

The walk culminated on April 7th, 2012 as theay reached Rajghat and April 8th, 2012 was pronounced as PERSONAL HONESTY DAY.
A day envisioned as a corrupt free day, where every Indian citizen, who believes in taking responsibility to build an Honest Nation, pledges to not indulge in any corrupt practice. Practices not limited to bribery alone but also includes an endless list of practices like ragging & cheating in colleges, Dowry, Piracy, Passive citizenship, racial and religious discrimination, irresponsible driving etc.

The journey is going go to continue as the team prepares itself to:
a) Taking up honest voting as a campaign starting 2014 elections.
b) Develop a method to audit processes for transparency and honesty by taking up one mandal for complete transformation.
c) Undertake study of deeply held belief systems around the future of our country & our role as citizens & create programs that shift these beliefs in ways that is supportive of positive action and such-like.
