Event: Freedom Under Construction 2006
I got to know about Bhumi via Radio City. I had just started Radio Jockeying a few months ago.
At the stroke of the midnight hour on 15th August, the youth of Hyderabad would get together to rebuild a school in Rasoolpura. A school for the underprivileged.
We had a tie up with Bhumi...to spread the message...the awareness of a good and just cause. As i learnt what was happening, i became more and more interested. A lot of time you think about doing something but then, just donating didnt seem right.
Here was an opportunity to get into the midst of things and help. And it was a drive to motivate the youth of the society. I wanted to join. And that night, i went to the site, after my show. It was touching to see so many people from different backgrounds and age-groups descend on a little run down school. the site was a stone's throw away from a major road.. a road reflecting the development of the city. And in it's folds, lying ignored was a school that would churn out the future of the country. We gathered, wore the t-shirts that were handed out.. and assembled. We were ready, motivated and raring to go. And then, we began.. with all the construction material, the concrete, the paints, the cement, the bricks... and the only thing that kept us going was the cause. People joined in from all parts of the city.. all of us ONE.
We broke down the walls, the floor, tore down the building to make way for a new beginning. Sweat, blood and tears of joy.. that independence night.
I slept well later. Knowing that i was given an opportunity to contribute in the way i really wanted to. I have been associated with Bhumi ever since. And i always will be.
Thank you Bhumi. You are constructing my way to freedom.
